A Tradition Like No Other
We’ve been out of town the last three Masters’ weekends, but we’re doing our best to make up for it. A great weekend to hang out at the house and usher in spring. Here for another few weeks before heading back out.
On Day 1,000.....a Sign!
Exactly 1,000 days ago we began our journey across the globe. We have been back in the States for a few weeks taking a break and are deciding what's next. Overnight this arrow appeared outside of our building, and since yellow arrows have pretty much been our guide since day one, this can't just be a coincidence, so I guess we'll head back out shortly.
(Kinda) Home Sweet (Sorta) Home
After being gone for several years, we are moving back into our loft in downtown SLC. After 2.5 years living out of a backpack it will be nice to sleep in a familiar bed and sit on a familiar couch while watching American TV. It feels a bit strange, but it's going to be nice to sit still for a few months before we head back out.
A Well Earned Meal
Our last walk of the season was a 30 mile day into Burgos, Spain. Awaiting was a fantastic meal at our favorite restaurant in the world! A great way to finish up 7 months out and about.
A Beautiful Fall in Spain
This has turned out to be the perfect time to walk our favorite stretch of the Camino for a couple of weeks before heading back to the States for the holidays.
Big Brass Bells
It's a burden walking around all day with these things, but the Swiss cows pull it off in fine fashion. We've been in Zürich for two weeks and leave soon for a bit of walking in Spain on the Camino before heading back to the States for the holidays.
Mission Accomplished
The Rheinsteig hike was a success. It was a great time of year to be in "castle country" enjoying nice walks with our good friends and their dog Ruby. Heading to Zürich for a couple of weeks to rest up and take a break from beer and brats!
A New Hiking Adventure
Joining our good friends from Berlin, we are now walking the Rheinsteig Trail, a 320 km hike along the Rhine river in Germany from Bonn to Wiesbaden. It's great to be back out walking again.
Waffles and Frites and Beer...oh my!
And also chocolate. After Helsinki and Amsterdam we've made our way to Brugge. These 4 staples are linchpins of the economy and we have done our best to contribute.
The Eyes Have It
There are lots of cool things to see here in Tallinn, Estonia. A gem of a little city we knew nothing about, but has turned out to be a great place to stay for a week.
Lookin' for Soul Food & a Place to Eat
Latvian soul food in this case. We are in the capital city of Riga, making our way through the Baltic countries. Definitely not typical August summer weather, but it's nice to have a break from the heat and the food is outstanding.
Leaning into Lithuania
Most people couldn't easily find this country on a map, but Lithuania has been a very nice surprise with it's people, food, architecture and extremely reasonable prices. Come visit here if you're in the neighborhood.
It's Saturday in Switzerland
Just out enjoying the good weather and mountain air. It's been a great 6 week stint and we are off to Eastern Europe in a few days. Note the cool mural on the side of the barn.

Out for a Stroll
We've walked a fair bit over the last 2+ years, about 4,000 miles give or take, and without question the Swiss Alps are among the finest scenery along the way.
Beautiful View, but Sadly No Fireworks
Just arrived in Leysin, Switzerland for a 6 week stay. The view from our balcony and the hiking are great, but we do miss this weekend back in the States. Hope you have a great 4th!
A Tense Moment
This was taken outside of our apartment last night at 3 AM. High shifting winds brought smoke, flames and exploding trees over the ridge that is about 1/4 mile away. A natural break and some old fire damage came to the rescue. Backpacks were quickly packed and we were ready to evacuate, but fortunately it didn't come to this. All is well for now as planes are scooping up ocean water and spraying the last of the flames. Definitely a night that will be remembered.
As the Sun Sets...the Sun also Rises
After walking about 700 miles in Spain and Portugal it is time to rest the feet. We've moved to Tucepi, Croatia for the month of June to enjoy our favorite beach village.

This was taken in a small village in Portugal on our way to Santiago. We have met up with our good friends from Salt Lake City and Perth, Australia and have been having a great time walking back to Santiago.
Sitting on the Porch Thinking Thoughts
In a few days we will arrive in Santiago for the fourth time in two years. This comprises about 2,500 miles of Camino walking. Next up we go to Portugal to walk back up to Santiago with good friends from the US and Australia. So is the thought "I'm really glad we pulled this off" or "have we lost our minds"?
